Marie-Claire McCubbery is a counselling psychologist and Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) with over 15 years of clinical experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology, and a Master's in Counselling Psychology. Practising from clinics in Heidelberg Heights and Richmond, Melbourne, Marie-Claire works with individuals aged 14 and over and couples across a broad range of presentations, including trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, and coping and adjustment concerns. Telehealth appointments are available, and sessions can be conducted in English or fluent Spanish.
Marie-Claire believes that meaningful change begins with feeling genuinely heard. Her practice is built on a person-centred philosophy — one that places each client's unique story, goals, and circumstances at the heart of every session. She views therapy as a collaborative process, working alongside individuals and couples to build self-awareness, explore the patterns that may be holding them back, and strengthen the connections that matter most — starting with the relationship each person has with themselves. Marie-Claire's vision is to provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients feel empowered to move toward a more grounded, connected, and fulfilling life.
Marie-Claire is committed to delivering evidence-based psychological care that is both clinically rigorous and deeply human. With over 15 years of experience, she brings a breadth of knowledge across diverse client presentations and funding needs. Marie-Claire continually draws on the latest research-supported therapeutic approaches to ensure her clients receive care that is tailored, effective, and responsive to their evolving needs. In-person sessions are available across two Melbourne locations, with Telehealth offered for added flexibility.
Marie-Claire takes an integrative, tailored approach to therapy, selecting from a broad range of evidence-based modalities to best suit each client's needs and goals. She has a particular specialisation in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for both individuals and couples, and draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Humanistic Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, Marie-Claire works collaboratively with each client to identify what will be most effective, fostering insight, shifting entrenched thinking patterns, and supporting lasting behavioural and emotional change.
